How important is engine wash? (Photo Credits)

Most meticulous car owners are very particular about washing their cars regularly. Some in fact take it a notch higher by having their car engine cleaned and wash. But is an engine wash really necessary? How often should this be done? AutoGlass Safety Council

Canadian motoring website Driving.ca shared the many benefits of keeping a vehicle engine clean. “If you’re driving an older ride that has developed a few minor oil leaks over the years (but still keeps on ticking) getting that grime off can help save repair costs and breakdowns. There are a lot of rubber components under the hood such as vacuum and coolant hoses, drive belts, bushings and such that can have their lifespan greatly reduced by contact with oil or fuel. If your chariot has a persistent leak of any fluid, getting it fixed is a wise idea. Not only is it easier on the environment, it can save you larger repair bills and the inconvenience of a possible road-side failure.”

Firestone Complete Auto Care meantime explained the advantages of fuel system cleaning, and why it is a part of a complete auto care.  Windshield Wiki

“Because the filter, fuel pump and fuel injectors are all part of an interconnected system, these parts can get clogged with dirt and debris. A fuel injector cleaner is used to clean out all of the dirt, debris and build up in your fuel system. A clogged fuel system can damage other engine parts, which can quickly lead to deteriorated performance, fuel economy, and a complete engine shutdown if not regularly maintained.”

How Stuff Works meantime talked about Engine Flushing and why a vehicle owner should consider the procedure.

So what can a car owner do when his wipers fail?

The website Art of Maniliness shared a comprehensive article detailing the many possible ways to troubleshoot wiper blades that do not work. The best way though to not suffer the consequences of a non-working wiper is to regularly replace it. Windshield Wiki

“Replace wiper blades regularly. Don’t wait until you find yourself in a downpour to realize it’s time to replace your wiper blades. They should be in top condition before you need them. The recommended wiper replacement schedule is once a year. Even if you don’t use your blades all that often, it’s still a good idea to replace them at this frequency. The hot sun beating down on an unused wiper blade can cause just as much damage as regular use in the rain.”

Autos.com also shared various way to troubleshoot a non-working windshield wiper.

“Tighten the problem arm back in place or, if need be, remove the arm assembly to see if the arm itself is broken. If the arm is broken you will need to buy a new one and replace it. Pay particular attention to how the arm connects to the vehicle. Most likely your arm is just loose and can be re-tightened. Once the arm is tight, turn the wiper blades back on to see if you have alleviated the problem.”

Check the guides inside the store, and they will let you know the proper blades to get for your car’s make, model, and year.”

The clutter should be in the boot. The Benefits of a Clutter-free Car

Organized and Clean Car

Car interior

Regularly decluttering one’s car has a lot of advantages. (Photo Credits)

Organizing things inside one’s car has immense benefits. Apart from cleanliness, avoiding pest infestation and clarity of mind, a clutter free car brings about more advantages than the obvious.

The website Cars.com came up with tips on how to ensure that a car remains clutter-free. “Clean Out the Crap: Don’t be tempted to put a lot of crap in your car in the first place. It sounds so simple, and it is. Items that go into your car should be necessities. Ask yourself if your kid needs to bring his 1,000-piece puzzle, pull-toy and swim floatie with you on a trip to the grocery store. Implement the “one in, one out” rule. If your kids must bring a favorite toy in the car, limit them to oneitem each. If they bring one thing in the car, they must bring that one thing back out of the car at the end of the day. (If that one item happens to be a purse stuffed with 20 other small items? Good luck!) One parent of three on our staff recommends treating your car like a camping trip. If you pack it in, you must pack it back out and leave it better than when you arrived.”

Organizing the Car

Huffington Post for its part shared some ways to quickly organize one’s vehicle. Windshield Wiki

Ensuring the glove compartment remains tidy is one of their tips. “Transform Your Glove Compartment into a Mini Filing Cabinet. A thin coupon organizer (or recipe file) is an easy way to have fast access to your car’s most vital papers. Registration, insurance information, car repair and maintenance receipts can all have their own tabs, recommends Lorna Kyle Boot of the blog, That’s the Coolest Thing!, and most styles fit comfortably inside a glove compartment. You could also stow a few napkins there (read: 3-5, not the two dozen or so that often get crammed there ‘just in case’ after a drive-thru run) and a car charger for your cell phone.” Read more tips here.

The website Spring Cleaning 365 also came out with more tips and organizational tidbits for its readers who are aiming to have clutter-free vehicles. AutoGlass Safety Council

Work your way front to back, opening up any compartments along the way, and put anything that’s trash in the trash bag and anything that needs to be taken inside in the tote bag. Everything must be taken out with the exception of a few items: (1) Vehicle registration; (2) Vehicle insurance information; and (3) Vehicle maintenance records (optional).” Read about the continuation here.
